How I Romanticise My Life & Daily Routines

For a long time, I thought happiness would come from huge milestones.
More money. More success. More certainty. More achievement.
But honestly? Some of the biggest changes in my life came from making ordinary moments feel softer, calmer, more intentional, and more beautiful.
I started romanticising my routines.
Not in a fake, performative way. But in a way that made me actually look forward to my life.
I realised discipline becomes easier when your environment feels supportive. Healing feels easier when your nervous system feels safe. And consistency becomes easier when your routines feel enjoyable.
Here are some small ways I romanticise my world and why it’s genuinely changed my mindset, routines, and wellbeing.
1. I Prepare My Desk the Night Before
I tidy my workspace, place my journal out, prepare my water, and make my desk feel calm and inviting. It removes friction from my mornings and helps me approach work with a clearer mind instead of chaos.
2. I Make My Drinks Feel Special
Whether it’s coffee, matcha, herbal tea, or lemon water, I use cups I genuinely love.
Even my coffee scoop is cute. It sounds small, but these tiny details make ordinary moments feel intentional instead of rushed.
3. I Light Candles & Burn Oils in the Morning
Before meditation, journaling, or work, I light candles or use my oil burner for aromatherapy. It signals to my mind and body that the day is beginning intentionally rather than reactively.
4. I Use Soft Lighting at Night
I have warm fairy lights across my bed for evening reading and quiet time. It helps me switch off from overstimulation and makes nighttime feel peaceful instead of chaotic. Not every night perfectly. I Read Instead of Scrolling Before Bed But often enough to notice the difference. My sleep, anxiety levels, focus, and mindset all improve when I disconnect from devices earlier.
6. I Play Music That Matches the Energy I Want
Anyone who knows me well knows music is my medicine.
Dancehall and old-school hip hop when I’m working out at the gym. Yes — I even do home yoga with a reggae playlist.
Instrumentals and healing frequencies when I’m working on admin or content-focused tasks, relaxing, chatting, or cooking.
Music changes the atmosphere of a room instantly and helps shift my emotional state. We have a lot of speakers in our home, and they get used regularly.
7. I Buy Things That Support the Life I Want
Not just expensive things. Intentional things.
Beautiful notebooks. Comfortable bedding. Glass jars. A tea station. A nice water bottle.
Things that quietly encourage healthier habits and a calmer environment.
8. I Turn Wellness Into Ritual Instead of Restriction
Making herbal tea. Preparing nourishing meals. Taking supplements. Stretching. Walking.
I stopped treating wellness like punishment and started treating it like self-respect.
9. I Make Ordinary Days Feel Meaningful
I no longer wait for birthdays, holidays, or achievements to enjoy my life or celebrate myself or my loved ones.
I want Tuesday mornings to feel beautiful too. That mindset shift changed everything for me.
I will send affirmation-filled texts to my besties randomly, not just on their birthdays. I invite my mum over for a boujee homemade lunch just because. My husband buys me flowers just because.
What Romanticising My Life Has Actually Changed
Romanticising my routines has helped me:
become more disciplined
reduce overstimulation
feel calmer mentally
enjoy my routines more
reduce procrastination
become more intentional
feel more grateful
slow down
reconnect with myself
create more peace internally
And honestly? Life feels softer now.
Not perfect. Not always easy. But softer. More intentional. More aligned.
